FAQs
What is “hardscaping”?
Hardscaping is the use of non-living materials to create a landscape design. Examples of hardscaping include:
Driveways, Patios, Fountains, Fire pits, Walkways, Retaining walls, Fences, Decks, and Outdoor kitchens.
Hardscaping is the opposite of softscaping, which is the use of living materials like trees, shrubs, and flowers. Hardscaping and softscaping are both used together in landscape design.
Hardscaping can provide practical benefits and beautify a space. For example, hardscaping can create stable ground for pedestrians and an even surface for people using wheelchairs, scooters, or walkers. Hardscaping can also help maximize outdoor space, regardless of the size of the yard or the climate.
Some common hardscaping materials include:
• Poured concrete: A cheap and common option that can be stamped to look like other paving materials
• Natural stone: A durable material that's suitable for patios, pool decks, and more
What is “softscaping”?
Softscaping is the living, growing elements of a landscape design, including plants, grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers. It also includes the tasks involved in maintaining these elements, such as planting, mowing, weeding, and fertilizing.
Softscaping is different from hardscaping, which refers to the inorganic, "hard" elements of a landscape, such as patios and retaining walls. The goal is to create a balance between the two elements to create a cohesive, functional, and beautiful outdoor space.
What are your competitors doing that you want to do or do better?
They are very expensive and are not willing to work with customers to find alternative solutions, such as sweat equity. Allowing customers to participate in the build process to save on expenses.
Where is your competition heading? Do you agree or disagree with their direction?
Headed to high end cookie cutter design builds. “Yard in a box.” Not willing to work within limited budgets.
What challenges do you foresee in the industry, and how do you plan to address them?
Financing. We will offer financing and maintenance. People struggle with keeping things looking pristine. We will maintain what we install.
Founder’s story - John Wardlaw
“I have always been passionate about helping people and enhancing their lives in meaningful ways. During COVID, my family was fortunate to have an outdoor space that made staying home enjoyable. Our home naturally became the gathering place for our kids and their friends—not because we're 'cool' parents, but because we created an inviting space with room for everyone to relax and engage in various activities, from basketball and swimming to BBQs and movie nights.
With over eight years in the construction side of this business, my motivation remains rooted in helping families connect and create memories. Personally, family is my top priority, and I am deeply committed to the well-being of my family, friends, and employees.”
